This was a struggle to capture and worth every bit of it! I had been anticipating an unbelievable aurora display for a few days. The plan was to drive straight from work to this old church. I decided not to bring my camera gear and just have my wife bring it with her from home. Everything was going to plan, and we both arrived just before dark. When I went to grab my camera out of the bag everything changed. I LEFT MY CAMERA ON THE DESK AT HOME! 100% my fault for not letting her know that it wasn’t in the camera bag. I was devastated since this was a shot I’ve wanted foryears. After beating myself up a bit, I remembered a close friend and his family recently bought a camera and lived only ten miles from where I was! The stars aligned and they had just arrived home from Colorado and let me borrow the camera. Luckily it even used the same lenses as mine. A little bit of refreshing myself was needed as it was a model I hadn’t used in years and had very different controls than my newer mirrorless. In the end, I was able to capture a few photos before the solar storm faded away.
